I’m going to write about this at some point but this is now how I do all my live TV hits. iPhone 11 Pro hooked up to MacBook Pro using Camo webcam app.
For almost a year, I've been struggling to find a great web camera solution that works for Zoom/Meet/Facetime. Part of me wondered, why isn't there just a way to use the spectacular camera on my iPhone when I'm using my iMac?
Answer: There is. @reincubate Camo. Unbelievable. 🎉
How is nobody talking about this??
Instead of spending $2K+ for a DSLR setup, you can use your iPhone as a webcam, in just a few minutes!
It's MASSIVELY better than the FaceTime camera.
Over Zoom, it's hard to see the difference between a iPhone 11 Pro and a DSLR:
Going a bit overboard leading our company meeting on @zoom_us today.
OBS for overlays + a moving news ticker of our latest revenue numbers and other goals. @OBSProject
Camo for using iPhone in Portrait Mode as my web cam @reincubate
I needed to show my coworkers 6 different webcams I've tested over the last few months. Here's about 20sec of each, all recorded today.
Verdict? iPhone11 Pro w/ @reincubate's Camo is the best bang for the buck, esp. since you don't need extra hardware (just charge cable+tripod)
Got my Camo beta invite and did some quick performance testing. Uses WAY less CPU than what I currently use and is much easier to set up. 🎊
Will definitely be adding this to my videoconferencing guide as the recommended webcam solution. 👍
It’s the best. Hands down as I’ve tried them all. Almost made my own out of dissatisfaction of the others and glad I didn’t as this is perfect.
Camo is friggin amazing. Like “how is it so low latency I can’t believe it’s technologically possible” amazing
Jeez using an iPhone 11 as a webcam via Camo @reincubate let me pay and upgrade this already! This is amazing!
PS. I need to see my barber asap
I'm using @reincubate's Camo since this morning and it's 🤯. Very easy to setup, to use, the quality of my meetings are greatly improved!
After 2hrs on MS Teams yesterday (Camo/iPhone 11), one of the other participants asked “hey are you using your computer camera?”
*gulp* “no, why, is it way out of sync? Bad quality?”
“No, the opposite, it looks REALLY good”
Thank you @reincubate.
Gotta say, Camo is an amazing application to let you use a iPhone as a webcam. Works out of the box even for Jitsi.
I don't always buy software after 30 minutes of trial, but when I do it's something like @reincubate #camo .
After trying out the Camo beta by @reincubate, I'm reminded that good engineering is truly undistinguishable from pure magic.
I'm happy to know that my webcam will now always be just as good as my current iPhone's camera.
Check it out:
I have to say, Camo from @reincubate is shaping up to be amazing already. Three meetings using the beta today, and the quality difference is night and day. And setup couldn’t be easier.
This is so true. An ancient iPhone 5s, released in 2013 (!) that had been sitting in my drawer is producing a better image now via @reincubate Camo than a pricey Logitech Brio webcam that I had purchased (and have since returned).
Been using Camo studio on my Mac Mini to give me a webcam and officially love the app. I use my 12 Pro Max main camera for a webcam and it looks better than any webcam on the market! Super easy to use too. Highly recommend it if you wanna step up your zoom game.
You don't need a fancy camera setup to record higher quality video for your podcasts.
Instead, download the @reincubate Camo software to leverage your smartphone camera as your webcam. 🎥

Looking to use Camo to enhance your remote teaching capabilities? You’re not alone.
Camo is an elegant and simple solution to the common problem of poor webcam quality, despite us carrying around high-quality cameras in our mobile devices.
Whether in the education, telehealth, or work-related communication spheres, a high-quality stream allows us to convey facial expression and body language in a more meaningful way. This has become critical as we try to work remotely though the COVID19 pandemic.
The app is powerful yet very easy to use.

Having almost never taught lessons remotely before, our school has moved to teaching a full timetable online. That’s over 1500 hours a week of online lessons!
The key has been to continually improve, learn how to get better, and make sure our teaching was as good as possible. Camo has helped us with this - by helping us use phones as webcams. This sounds such a simple thing - however it’s meant a huge amount.
Firstly phones have a much higher resolution camera than standard laptop webcams meaning the lessons are HD perfect.
Secondly, the throw distance of a phone camera is much greater than that of a webcam, meaning it won’t go out of focus when presenting practicals or at the board.
Thirdly, there’s a much greater degree of flexibility when using Camo - allowing you to change the zoom, the camera being used, the resolution and the colour of the image.
In short, Camo has helped us look more professional, and given us greater flexibility when teaching.

Camo is the catalyst behind engaging online learning.
Unlocking my iPhone’s camera allows me to create inspiring video content for students to spark learning and cement growth.
I was so delighted and comforted when I noticed you already had a section in the app to confirm it works with Mmhmm (and literally EVERY other tool I can think of).

Camo is a wonderful and flexible resource for music teaching and streamed performance online, making dual or multiple camera set-ups very doable. I recommend it to my colleagues and students.

The pandemic hit us pretty hard too. In rapid pace we moved all teaching and student interactions online.
Using Camo, I was able to provide my services to students in the best resolution at my disposal, I found that helped to keep students hooked on the content. Keep up the great work!

I have been using Camo for a couple of months now and it has transformed my experience of remote working.
Despite having fairly high-end laptop and display the built-in cameras were just not good enough quality to cope with shifting light conditions (especially with the shorter days of winter). I can now unlock the potential of my iPhone 11 Pro camera(s) and deploy it as a pro-level webcam and take advantage of the adjustments and filters embedded in Camo.
Colleagues have commented on the quality of the image delivered through Camo and how it makes the experience of online meetings seem closer.
Most importantly I have been able to take advantage of the higher resolution provided to share richer educational content like sketches, images and photographs directly with students in tutorials.

Why aren’t all web cam controls like this?
The image quality and access of control of my camera has given me loads of new ideas for online sessions and the tools to do it.
I teach on design courses so getting the best image for demos of drawing and making is really important for both live and presentation work – as well as putting my old iPhone six to great use.
